The Big Bang Theory

'Big bang' is a conceptual theory on how the universe would have been thrown into existence from a hot and an extremely dense state. Proposed by Monsignor Georges Lemaître, a priest from the Catholic University of Louvain, this theory is believed to be the most comprehensive and well abiding with the laws of physics. This model developed by a elite group of cosmologists over a period of time, is based on two vital assumptions. The first is that of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. The second assumption, called the cosmological principle. In 1929, Edwin Hubble discovered that the distances to far away galaxies were generally proportional to their redshifts. Hubble's observation was taken to indicate that 'all very distant galaxies and clusters have an apparent velocity directly away from our vantage point: the farther away, the higher the apparent velocity.'

This could be a very complex idea to perceive for many. Stephen hawking, theoretical physicist and cosmologist, explains this complicated finding with the help of a practical example. He says, a speeding car viewed from a particular vantage point would emit a slightly blue shade as it approach and a very slightly red shade as it move away. This is not only applicable for a speeding car but, to all the physical entities on our universe. Now, having a clear idea on the properties of moving entities, lets analyze the findings of Edwin Hubble. According to him, since all the distant galaxies and clusters are slightly red, it could be inferred that they are moving farther away. Which, when further simplified down, its obvious that the entire universe is expanding without a stop.
 

Ever expanding Universe.

This benchmark finding by Edwin Hubble, is a phenomenal progress in narrowing down the origin of our ever expanding universe. Theoretical physicists and cosmologists believe that this mighty universe would have exploded into existence from a single point smaller than an atom. People may wonder how this could be deduced from the findings of Hubble. Its actually a lot simpler than you would expect. All you have to do is just to reverse the entire process of expansion, which would converge to a single point from where all these elements were thrown into existence. Its believed that, this tiny little ultra hot spot of energy which had all the ingredients for a massive universe burst and thus unleashing the ever expanding universe. The universe sprung into existence getting bigger and cooler with each and every moment it survived till day. This entire phenomenon on the birth of universe is coined as the 'Big bang theory' by Fred Hoyle while on a radio broadcast back in the year 1949.
